I am a career TV Meteorologist who spent 38 years in the field across nine different states. This has given me experience in many parts of the country where I could see what worked for those regions and what didn’t. I feel I can bring a fresh outlook to the legislature in order to get things moving in the direction we need.
Now that I am in semi-retirement, I want to be able to use my time to work to make things better for West Virginia.
I moved to West Virginia in 2005 to work for WCHS as Chief Meteorologist. I have enjoyed living in the state and consider it my home. Along the way in my career I have worked in Durango, CO; Farmington, NM; Medford, OR; Santa Maria, CA; Wichita, KS; Orlando, FL; Syracuse, NY; Dallas, TX and Charleston, WV.
Along the way I married my wife Karen in Wichita. In 1999 while in Syracuse our daughter Summer was born. Karen and I had a wonderful 16 year marriage that unfortunately ended when she passed away from Cystic Fibrosis in 2011. Her illness made me more or less an expert in healthcare and the problems we need to tackle to get costs and availability where they should be. The illness is genetic and was fortunately not passed along to Summer. She is now a Senior at Marshall University majoring in Digital Forensics. She is very adept with the computer and is the one who put together this website.
I am a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in GeoScience. I have been a member of Mensa since 1980.
In my spare time I enjoy playing golf when I have time and along with my daughter am a martial artist. We have both achieved our second degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and Summer is also a Black Belt in Iaido, the Art of the Japanese Sword. Many of you may remember how she gave me a black eye while sparring which I proudly wore for about two weeks. Summer and I live on the West side of Charleston with our pound rescue dog Tommy.
I live a frugal lifestyle, having paid off my house and both my car and my daughter’s. Not only that, but I kept my last two cars a combined 32 years, so I get the most out of what I spend. I intend to bring that mentality to the legislature to make sure every penny is spent as wisely as possible.
